LED Flasher

In the mid 20th century the most used lamp for large wattage units for search lamps was the atmospheric arc lamp. In due time there grew a requirement of small but powerful sources of light. This requirement was fulfilled by the use of luminescent lamps. These lights produce less heat than incandescent lamps. These lights include electric discharge lamps, semiconductor lamps and chemical lamps. The LED or Light Emitting Diodes are example of semiconductor lamps. This is a crystalline semiconductor diode. When current flows through the semiconductor it drops to a state of lower energy. This energy, which is realized, is emitted as photons. The LEDs can be of different colors depending on the type of material used during its manufacturing. LEDs are made of electrical conductors or semi conductors mixed with phosphorous which absorb electromagnetic radiation and remit it as visible light. A single LED cannot produce sufficient light for illuminating purpose. But they can be used as flasher lights, used for indicators.

In a flasher the bulb is constantly put off and on so that we can see the flashing effect. Due to this in prolonged use the bulb gets fused very early. If an LED with the electronic circuit is used for this flasher it does not burn off, as there is no filament in a LED. Moreover, a bulb consumes more power than a LED. So if a number of LEDs are put together it gives the brightness of a flasher bulb, but consumes less power and operates for a longer time than a bulb. Another advantage of using LED for a flasher is that if a bulb in a flasher burns off, the flasher would not flash at all. In case of a LED if one LED goes off others still carry on functioning making the flasher partially serviceable.

These days' flashers are used in a number of devices. They can be used for battery power indicator, globe flashers, car indicators, and a number of decorative items. All these can be run at a very low power cost that is these can be run with a single flat battery with almost no expense of power. A flasher can be used in a key chain to find it out in dark. It can be used intelligently in a car to discourage the theft of it. It can also be used in the bathroom or bedroom in the light switch pull cord so you can find it in the dark. A number of LEDs arrange in a matrix can also act as a side or turn indicator. LED flasher can also be used as flip flops, for counting a series of action. LED flashers can be effectively used in dance bars, marriage parties, and restaurants. A matrix of these LEDs they can act as big flashing strobe lights but will much less power that the original one.

The main disadvantages of LEDs are if they are connected to the wrong polarity they will not light at all, still more they can burn off. These LEDs cannot even sustain high voltage surges. To overcome these surges they require special electronic circuitries. These are the many uses and advantages of LED flasher.
